Privacy policy

This policy covers Plinkshot: the game at play.plinkshot.com, the Plinkshot Discord Activity, and this website. Plinkshot is run by Gillette Ventures LLC, doing business as Plinkshot ("we", "us").

The short version

What we collect

When you play on the web

The game gives you a random guest id, and you type a display name. Both are stored in your own browser (localStorage and sessionStorage) so the game remembers you next time. They are sent to our game server while you play so other players can see your name.

When you play in Discord

We ask Discord for the identify permission only. That gives us your Discord user id, username and display name. We do not get your email address, your server list or your messages. Discord gives us an access token, which we use once to read that profile and then discard. We do not store it.

Gameplay data

While a match runs, the server processes your inputs and your cow's position to run the game. This data lives only as long as the match and is not stored.

Server logs

Our game server runs on DigitalOcean in San Francisco, USA. Its system logs may record IP addresses and error messages. We use them to fix bugs and stop abuse, and they are deleted automatically after 14 days. When you play inside Discord, Discord's proxy sits between you and our server, so we do not see your IP address.

How long we keep it

Player sessions (your id and name for the current visit) are kept in server memory only. They are lost whenever the server restarts. Nothing about your matches is written to a database, because there is no database. Server logs are the only thing kept on disk, and they are deleted automatically after 14 days.

How we use it

We use this information to run matches, show player names, fix bugs and keep the game safe from cheating and abuse. We do not use it for advertising or profiling. Where privacy law asks for a legal basis, ours is running the game you asked to play and our legitimate interest in keeping it working and safe.

Cookies and tracking

We do not use advertising or analytics tools, tracking pixels or tracking cookies. Cloudflare may set a strictly necessary security cookie to protect this website from bots. You can clear the guest id and name the game stores by clearing site data for play.plinkshot.com in your browser.

Who processes data for us

Children

Plinkshot is not directed at children under 13, and Discord does not allow users under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal information, email us and we will delete it.

Your rights and requests

Email support@plinkshot.com to ask what we hold about you or to have it deleted. Depending on where you live, including the EU, the UK and California, you may also have rights to correct your data or object to how we use it. We will answer within 30 days. Because we keep so little, most requests come down to checking our server logs. We will never treat you differently for making a request.

International users

Our game server is in the United States. If you play from outside the US, your data is sent to and processed in the US, where privacy laws may differ from yours.

Security

Connections to the game and this website are encrypted. We keep almost no data, which is the best protection we can offer. No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee it.

Changes to this policy

If we change how Plinkshot handles data, we will update this page and the effective date at the top before the change takes effect.
